There's Something About This Place | Brand Experience & Strategy
Why do some hotels, restaurants, and homes just feel right? Explore how thoughtful brand strategy, storytelling, and little details create lasting connections.

There's Something About This Place.
I've been to Hotel Saint Vincent in New Orleans five times now, and I keep finding reasons to go back. It's beautiful of course, but there are lots of beautiful hotels. There's just something about this place. You know that feeling when you meet someone and instantly click? You can't explain exactly why, but you know you've found your people.
I think places can have that same effect on us.
A restaurant where you want to linger long after dinner. A shop you wander into and don't want to leave. An apartment that somehow feels like home before you've even moved in.
It's not necessarily about being the fanciest, trendiest, or most expensive.
It's about how a place makes you feel. And that's where the magic of strategic creative branding comes in.
I love all aspects of design, the unexpected experiences and details... man do I love those details! But there's a big difference between making something look beautiful and creating something people genuinely connect with.
A gorgeous hotel lobby might catch your eye, but what makes you want to come back?
A beautifully designed restaurant might get you through the door. But what makes it your favorite place?
And when you're touring a potential new home, what makes you stop thinking about square footage and start imagining your life there?
I believe it's about how it makes you FEEL, and that feeling comes from hundreds of little decisions, all working together to tell a story. Every little detail has a part to play.
Early in my career as a designer, I had a mentor, Tina Wilcox, who said that a great brand experience is a little bit like theater. I couldn’t agree more.
There's a story being told, and everything has a role. The logo. The colors. The textures. The words on the wall. The furniture. The lighting. The music playing in the background. The way someone greets you when you walk through the door. Even that little notepad by the bed with a funny quote that makes you smile. Or the soap in the bathroom that smells so good you make a mental note to find out what it is.
These things might seem insignificant on their own. But together? They create an unforgettable personality. An almost magical feeling that draws you in, makes you curious, and invites you to explore. And just like theater, the experience doesn't happen by accident, it’s thoughtfully crafted down to the smallest details. Getting to those details, and aligning on what they are and why they matter... that's where strategy comes in.
Before choosing a color, designing a logo, or selecting a finish, there are some pretty important questions to ask.
Who are we inviting in?
What matters to them?
What makes this place different?
And how do we want people to feel when they're here?
Those answers become the foundation for everything that follows.
Without a clearly planned story, even the most beautiful details can feel disconnected. When there's a strong idea behind it all, the creative decisions become more intentional and clearer for the team to visualize. The architecture, interiors, branding, messaging, and even the service start working together.
The funny thing is, most people will never notice all that work. And that's kind of the point. They won't know exactly why the room feels so welcoming or why the restaurant feels like somewhere they belong. They'll just know they love being there.
And really, isn't that the feeling we're all trying to create?
When people connect with a brand, they're more likely to remember it, talk about it, return to it, and recommend it. I mean, look at me. I'm writing an entire article because I was so inspired by a hotel!
That connection often begins long before someone walks through the door. It might start with a social post, a website, an ad, or something a friend shared. Each one is an opportunity to tell your story and give people a reason to want to be part of it.
For a hotel, that might mean becoming someone's go-to place whenever they're in town.
For a restaurant, it might mean turning a first-time guest into a regular.
For a residential development, it can mean helping someone imagine a life there, not just a lease.
And for a retailer, it might mean creating a brand people identify with, one they want to see themselves in and keep coming back to.
The magic happens when the experience lives up to the story that brought them there in the first place. Making that happen takes more than great design. It takes people who understand the story, believe in it, and know the important role they play in bringing it to life.
It sounds simple, but it's something worth remembering. A brand isn't just what you create. It's what people experience.
I can't tell you exactly which detail made me fall in love with Hotel Saint Vincent. Was it the gorgeous landscaping, the bold wall murals, the incredible service, the thoughtful brand details, or those darn good fries?! And that, my friends, is the beauty of it. It's all of it, working together.
What I do know is how it makes me feel. And clearly, that's enough to keep me coming back.
When a place gets it right, you don't just remember it. You want to be part of it!
I have a feeling visit number six isn't far away:)
A little credit where credit is due. Hotel Saint Vincent was brought to life through the vision of Liz Lambert, Larry McGuire, and their talented team at Lambert McGuire Design, alongside MML Hospitality and their development and design partners. What a beautiful example of what can happen when a lot of talented people come together to create something special.
At The Path Collective, we help businesses and places find their story and bring it to life. From the big-picture strategy to the smallest details, we believe every part of the experience has a role to play.
Working on something special? We'd love to hear about it.
